Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he PURGETH it, that it may bring forth more fruit." John 15:1,2.
A young man asked in one of our programmes "Why do believers still pray for purging? Are we not sanctified already? If no, explain in the light of Hebrews 10:10."
That was an intelligent question but it is clear the young man and perhaps his teachers are destitutes in the knowledge of the wholesome word of God.
If a man interprets the word of God out of context, it will be to the detriment of his own soul.
To make a believer see clearly what God inspired the writer to write:
4. A believer must understand that "Purgeth" as written in the King James Version means Purges which is an English word representing a present continuous act of cleansing.
5. A believer must believe that no one can be in Christ as He said "In me" without being sanctified.
The Amplified Bible renders verse 2 as:
"Any branch in Me that does not bear fruit [that stops bearing] He cuts away (trims off, takes away); and He cleanses and repeatedly prunes every branch that continues to bear fruit, to make it bear more and richer and more excellent fruit."
Jesus speaks to those who are already clean here (verse 3), those whose names are already written in heaven. Luke 10:17-20.
Denying a branch from being continually pruned or cleansed in the name of Once and for all sanctification is an error from the pit of hell meant to render believers redundant, bearing lesser and lesser fruit until their capacity for fruitfulness is exhausted and the Father Himself is forced to cut them off. The devil cannot cut any branch off this true vine but he knows fruitlessness will make God Himself to cut them off, he therefore introduces the doctrine of Balaam into the Church. Numbers 31:15,16; Rev.2:14.
O comrade, be wary of these wolves in sheep clothing and these evil hirelings that teach the Church to take the matter of sin and it's consequences lightly.
Did you fall into any sin, repent immediately, confess it to God and plead for cleansing. The prayer of faith will surely bring restoration to you.
Shalom.
